About us

Medical evidence that solicitors, families and tribunals can rely on

eMedico-Legal was set up to give clear, independent medical opinion on disputed healthcare, in the UK, Ireland and other countries. We work for claimants and defendants, for doctors and patients, and always keep to the evidence in the records.

Independent

Our opinions follow the records and the accepted standards of care, whoever instructs us. We never act for both sides in the same matter.

Clear

Reports are written so that solicitors, judges, families and arbitrators can follow the medical reasoning without specialist knowledge.

Confidential

Records are handled securely under UK and EU data protection law, kept only for as long as the case needs, then deleted.

Two ways to work with us

Choose the route that fits where you are in your case

An independent expert report and a private advisory review are different services with different duties. We keep them separate so that your evidence stays credible in court.

For solicitors, coroners and insurers

Independent expert report

An impartial report for court or inquest. The expert's overriding duty is to the court, not to the party paying the fee.

  • Breach of duty and causation
  • Condition and prognosis
  • Reports for HM Coroner inquests
  • Replies to Part 35 questions and joint statements
Instruction by letter, with records supplied by the instructing party.
For individuals and families

Confidential advisory case review

A clear medical review of your case bundle before or after you see a solicitor. We explain what happened clinically and set out the details your solicitor needs. All legal decisions stay with your solicitor.

  • Chronology of your care from the records
  • Detailed findings drawn from your case bundle, presented for your solicitor
  • Gaps, inconsistencies and missing records identified
  • Key clinical questions to put to your solicitor
  • Optional video meeting to go through the findings
Medical opinion only. We do not advise whether to bring a claim; that decision is for you and your solicitor.
Independence

If we carry out a private advisory review for you, we will not later act as the independent court expert in the same matter. Your solicitor will instruct a separate expert for court, and our review can help you prepare for that.

Services

What we can help with

Clinical negligence

Breach of duty and causation reports in gastroenterology and hepatology, including endoscopy, liver disease, acute admissions with gastrointestinal bleeding or liver failure, delayed diagnosis and medication errors.

Personal injury

Condition and prognosis reports, with examination in person or by video, and clear opinions on future care and treatment.

Inquests

Reports for HM Coroners on the medical cause of death and the care given, written for families as well as the court.

Support for healthcare professionals

Independent clinical review and advice for doctors, nurses, clinics and care providers facing a complaint, claim or investigation. See advice for healthcare professionals.

Second opinions

Independent opinions for insurers, employers and international arbitration, including cases arising outside the UK.

Mediation and arbitration

Resolution of disputes between patients and private hospitals or clinics, without the cost and delay of court.

For healthcare professionals

Medico-legal advice for doctors, nurses, clinics and care providers

When a complaint, claim, inquest or regulator investigation arises, healthcare professionals and providers can ask us for an independent clinical view of the care given. We also give practical advice to reduce medico-legal risk before problems start.

Complaints and claims

A review of the records and the care given, setting out the strengths and weaknesses of the clinical position, to support your response and the work of your defence organisation or solicitor.

Regulator and inquest support

Preparation for GMC, NMC or other regulator investigations and for inquests: a chronology of events, a check of your statement against the records, and the clinical questions likely to be asked.

Incident and case reviews

Independent review of serious incidents, unexpected deaths and patient safety investigations for hospitals, private clinics and care providers.

Records and consent

An audit of clinical documentation and consent practice, with practical steps to make records clear, complete and defensible.

Clinical governance and risk

Advice for private clinics, care homes and healthcare providers on clinical policies, complaint handling and medico-legal risk.

Teaching for clinical teams

Sessions on record keeping, consent, writing statements and giving evidence at inquests and in court.

Please note

We give independent clinical and medico-legal opinion. We do not replace your medical defence organisation, indemnity provider or solicitor, and we encourage you to tell them about any complaint or claim early. If we advise you privately, we will not act as the independent court expert in the same matter.

  3. Review and chronology

We build a chronology of the care given and identify the key clinical issues and any missing records.

  4. Report or meeting
